Hunting pressure on the Bottoms can be heavy during waterfowl season, particularly on weekends.

Prior to hunting any species on Cheyenne Bottoms Wildlife Area, all hunters are required to check-in here, https://ksoutdoors.com/checkin using your licensing login credentials. 
Pools 1, 5 and a portion of Pool 2 are refuge areas and closed to all activities. Exceptions to this occur for some special hunts. Check with wildlife area personnel for more information.

In addition to waterfowl, other game may be legally taken at Cheyenne Bottoms. Pheasant hunting is usually good. Snipe and rail hunting is good along the shallow marsh margins. Quail and deer are also present in fair numbers.

A handicapped accessible hunting/photo blind is available by reservation. Call the office for additional information and reservations.

In the event of whooping crane activity, the pool the birds are in is closed to all hunting and the goose hunting zones are closed to crane and light goose hunting.

Motorized boats are allowed only during an open waterfowl season. All boats must be operated at no wake speeds. Pool 3A is closed to motorized boats. Pool 4A is closed to motorized boats at 1 p.m.

Chase County

Chase State Fishing Lake
109 acres 1.5 miles West of Cottonwood Falls. The lake has a steep to shallow rocky shoreline and shallow mudflats on the upper end. Water clarity is usually very good. Eight fishing piers and many rock and brush fish attractors enhance angling opportunities at the lake. Fair to excellent populations of channel catfish, black bass, saugeye, crappie, white bass, and bluegill are found in the lake. Adjacent uplands primarily consist of native grass prairie. A diversity of wildflowers exists on the property and can provide outstanding viewing opportunities. Several small woody draws also exist on the property, primarily below the dam. Hunting is allowed but game populations are limited. The area does provide opportunities to hunt species such as quail, rabbit, white-tailed deer, turkey, squirrels, waterfowl, and prairie chicken. Camping is allowed (first come, first served) in designated areas along the north shore of the lake.. Check on creel limits and complete regulations.

Harvey County
Harvey County - East Park

The 314 acre tree-lined lake offers anglers a variety of fishing options including channel cat, walleye, saugeye, white bass, and crappie. Boating opportunites on the lake include water skiing, pleasure boating, and fishing. Due to the size of the lake, there is a designated ski route that must be followed by all vessels regardless of size. In addition, there is a swimming beach, sand volleyball courts, playgrounds, enclosed and open shelters for rent, nature trail, and bait shop with rental boats. There is no entry fee for the park, visitors are welcome to come and enjoy the trails, beach, and picnic areas at no charge. Fishing, boating, and camping are subject to fees and permits can be purchased by the day or annually.

Harvey County - West Park

Highlighted by wooded trails and the bends of the Little Arkansas River, Harvey County West Park is a natural gem in the northwestern portion of the County.

With a 16-acre pond and the river, West Park offers a range of difficulty level for fishers. The park's bait shop is open seasonally to help outfit visitors with their bait and tackle needs.

Campers will find both primitive sites and those with electric hookups, with access to nearby restrooms and bathhouses.

The climate-controlled Community Building can be rented to host any occasion. The Community Building is outfitted with a stove, refrigerator, sink, microwave, wood-burning fireplace and restrooms. West Park also has two other closed shelters and additional open shelters available for events. Follow this link for additional information on renting our facilities. 

Hiking, biking and horseback trails at West Park can take adventurers on paths with views of the lake, the river and through shaded, wooded areas. The trails at the park are mapped at getoutdoorskansas.org.

Additional West Park features include playground equipment, a swim beach and a dock with a kayak launch point. West Park has also hosted the annual Trappers Rendezvous camping event for the Boy Scouts of America for more than 45 years. 

Boating, camping and horseback riding are subject to fees. Fishing requires a state-issued fishing license.

Harvey County - Camp Hawk

Just southwest of Newton, Harvey County Camp Hawk features rental cabins, an 18-hole disc golf course and a fishing pond.

The Cabins at Camp Hawk opened in 2020, offering two furnished residences in the center of the park for visitors to enjoy. The nearby disc golf course winds throughout the southern landscape of the park, giving a nature tour that includes challenging throws around trees and the four-acre pond.

Camp Hawk is also home to a cabin-style shelter building that can be rented for social gatherings. The facility can host around 100 people, and includes heating and air conditioning as well as a wood-burning fireplace, restrooms and kitchen. The Using Our Facilities page offers more information on requirements for renting the shelter.

Camping, a playground, softball diamond and an outdoor, lit basketball court are also available to park visitors.

Camping is subject to a fee. Fishing requires a state-issued fishing license.
